4 Tips For Protecting Your Windshield

After I purchased a new car, I realized that I needed to do what I could to keep it beautiful. I started focusing on washing the car weekly and focusing on waxing the finish, but that didn't stop my hubby from wrecking the ride a few weeks later. I knew that I had to do something to restore it to its original beauty, so I worked hard to find an auto body repair shop that could help. I looked all over, and within a few days I was able to find a great business that could help. They did a wonderful job on my car, and helped me to protect the value. Check out this blog for great information on auto body work.

4 Tips For Protecting Your Windshield

Your windshield is an important component of your vehicle, helping to keep out the elements, keep you safe, and improve the appearance of your car. While it's not always possible to prevent those little chips and dings that show up on windshields over time, it is possible to protect your windshield from unnecessary damage and extend its lifespan as much as possible. Here are four ways to maintain and protect your windshield so you can keep it in good condition:

Get Chips Repaired Right Away

It may be tempting to ignore minor auto glass issues like small chips and cracks in your windshield, but this can be a costly mistake. If you have those small cracks and chips repaired by a qualified auto glass expert right away, they won't have a chance to spread and become much bigger problems. Minor chips can usually be repaired in a way that isolates the chipped glass and stops it from spreading.

Avoid Slamming Doors

The vibration from slamming doors can weaken your windshield glass and cause tiny little dents or cracks to spread and grow more serious. Get in the habit of closing your car doors more gently, and if you have children, explain to them the importance of avoiding slamming the door when they get out of the car. This will help prevent accidentally slammed fingers, as well.

Protect Your Windshield From Heat

Extreme heat can also weaken your auto glass and cause tiny hairline cracks in your windshield to increase in diameter and length. When it's very hot outside, it's ideal to park in a garage or under a car port. When this isn't possible, try to park in a shady spot in order to avoid having your windshield glass get too hot. As an added bonus, your car will stay more comfortable.

Practice Safe Driving

While not all auto glass repairs are avoidable, good driving practices can help you avoid many dings, cracks, and chips. If you drive too fast and follow too closely, you are increasing your risk of having a stray rock fly up and hit your windshield. Allowing plenty of following distance can help you avoid flying debris and rocks, while also reducing the likelihood of an accident if the car in front of you stops suddenly.

By following these tips and taking good care of your windshield, you can help prevent major glass damage or costly windshield replacement.
